This Is Why They Sell Pepper Spray

It's one reason why they sell the stuff: Bloomington's got a serial flasher and he's chasing after young women. The prime suspect was already out on bail for a similar crime here in Indianapolis in February.

A little behavior modification would go a long way in reducing such crimes.  Averse conditioning in the form of pepper spray, for example; if there was a one-in-four chance of being pepper-sprayed, and if we let flashers learn that via experience, it'd do a whole lot to reduce the number of such incidents.

College students, young women in particular, consider carrying pepper spray: small, portable, non-lethal -- and used judiciously, it contributes to the betterment of society.  Flashing is a crime of intimidation, usually committed against women, and it is best stopped early, before the flasher goes after bigger thrills.  A reminder that such behavior is intolerable would go a long way towards correcting it.  It is unlikely to do them lasting harm and may prevent injury to others and a long jail sentence for the perp.

Won't you please do your part to help?

I guess hat pins are hard to come by these days .

Seriously it is good advise as long as the spray is kept easily accessible .

As a long-time grower, preparer and user of peppers I can tell you from painful experience what festivities might result if the amounts of capsaicin one might have on unwashed hands will have on genitalia, that being, of course, diablingly painful, and that's only inadvertent amounts of garden-level stuff.

Application of social-purpose capsaicin would probably make some outstanding Youtube videos.

Then there is the non-shocked response: "it looks like a man's member, only MUCH smaller."

note: stolen/repeated from a Callahan's Saloon story by Spider Robinson...

Having lurked in cop threads at my preferred forums, just the residue from user-grade capsaicin spray on naughty bits is debilitating...

..and this is from showering again the next day.

If someone wishes to present a target for direct application, feel free to oblige. (Should defensive sprays not be an option, Mighty Boot is (usually) available.)

Ygolonac, and capsaicin-coated genitalia goes a long way toward proving in court that the member was exposed.

I see nothing wrong with long lasting, or even permanent harm, to such a person.
Now what is needed is a pepper spray with a long lasting dye, such as banks use .

Looking at getting some for Darlin' Daughter now that she lives a bit off campus and no longer works in the same building as her dorm room.

She is getting her CCW this winter when she is of age, but they would not allow her to carry at work.

We've also discussed stun guns (I'm not a big fan of having to close to contact to engage), Tasers (cost as much as an OK to decent carry piece). I do have an ASP from back in the day and she has some martial arts training, so that may be an option as well (but again, I prefer a standoff option).

Well come up with something but thanks for the reminder

The thing to remember is that this is basically a power thing for the perp, in much the same way as rape. He wants that shocked/offended reaction and will work to get it. So the clever Spider Robinson response is unlikely to have a good effect in the real world (IIRC, context was a little different in his use of it). A deadpan and thorough pepper-spraying, on the other hand, just might do the trick.

There was a story in a gun magazine a long time ago about A Perp who liked to do this sort of thing. He got in line at a convenience store with his purchase when he got to the clerk he flashed and she picked up his purchase a can of beans and according to the article slammed it down on the offending parts. Definitely a error in the victim selection process and in his purchase as well the article jokingly suggested if he was going to continue this behavior he might want to choose a loaf of bread the next time.

I recall that story, and IIRC it was in the "dumb crook of the month" column...

I remember that story, the suggested purchase was bananas.
It's like training a dog. The negative reinforcement has to be immediate and memorable.
Wouldn't a bear spray device be better? Who wants to get closer to the perv than necessary?
