Marry A Voter, Have Many Children

...If you want to try changing things via the ballot box and soap box: late word is that there's a genetic component to political involvement. While I nurse a secret suspicion it's the yammerheadedness gene, it could be I'm mistaken.

One interesting anthropological theory I read recently hinged on the near-universality of puberty rituals- often painful and apparently pointless- in ancient cultures, and speculated that they may actually have resulted in powerful selective pressure on human populations. For those tribes, to be allowed to reproduce, members first had to demonstrate willingness to go through pain to achieve later gratification... submit to authority without question... do both of those in the name of membership in society. Those who wouldn't or couldn't didn't breed or didn't stay.

It's at a level no more sophisticated than interesting speculation, but I can also speculate that perhaps the drudgery, silliness, and allegiance to a not-very-worthy authority is the modern unanesthetized circumcision...

Er, the drudgery, silliness, and allegiance of modern political partisanship. Missing some words there...
