I do write my congress persons on a semi regular basis. The have gotten to the point where they actually write back in person, instead of form letters. I am counting that as progress. As much as I hate to admit it, I have been watching some of the events as they unfold. I watched the Nixon things, as well, even though I was fairly young, and a lot of it was over my head, but I also understood a lot of it. I actually did not watch as much of the Bill Clinton impeachment process, because, to be honest, I thought that there was pretty much no way that they would not sustain the impeachment. Looking back from a much older point of view, I now understand just why they chose to let him stay in office. While there was no doubt that he was a slime ball, and had done things that made him one of the most disgusting men of all time, he still did not really cross the line of the constitution that called for him to be removed from office. Our founders saved that for super extreme misdeeds, almost crimes against America. Because they knew that it was never meant to become a political thing. And I think that is what we are seeing happen now. Oh, there little doubt that Trump is a jackass, and that he is an expert at the deal, which he was using with the president of Ukraine, and that he probably did not ask for anything in actual words. I think he is too shrewd for that. But whether or not he went as far as actual blackmail or tit for tat, or whatever, I don't think that was done. The other article, obstructing congress, I suspect that there is little doubt that in some way, shape, or form, the president obstructed them. Did it rise to the level of removing him from office, I doubt it. But here's the thing. Unless the president shot and killed someone in the middle of Time's Square, the Republican controlled Senate is not going to sustain this impeachment. This entire thing has been about nothing. It has only been a political circus. I think that the Democrats know that they do not have any candidate who can beat the president next November, and so they did this, to try and smear him with mud, so they have at least got something to try and slam him with during the campaign rolling up to the election. But the thing is, most presidents who are running for a second term, and have an economy that is doing reasonably well, are nearly impossible to beat by the other party. I think that Trump is no different. And I suspect that a lot of middle of the road people are getting fed up with the Democrats going overboard with some of the things. Time will tell.
