A Modest Slogan

India's Bajaj Auto, the clever folks who made my scooter, offer several motorcycles, including a "cruiser." The Avenger has an interesting motto.

I'd sure like to know how they manage that; two wheels in traffic makes me feel more like prey!

Looks like an old Honda CB series.

I'd buy one if I knew it was reliable.

By "god" I think they mean"Whackadoo" the Hindu god of "weaving back and forth in traffic and shouting", a deity many in Bangalore seem to worship with some gusto.

"Like God"? But which one??

On 200cc. I wouldn't even feel like a Titan.

12.88kW translates to around 17HP...that's a pretty low-powered god. Looks a lot like the Honda Rebel.

Don't think God would be caught dead behind that ugly windshield.

And what's up with those crashbars??

Rickn8or, the Avenger's been described as Bajaj's first cruiser-type bike. I believe they're pretty new to motorcyles. (Unlike, say, Royal Enfield). Give 'em time.

Compared to walking or riding a bus, a good small motorcycle might indeed make one feel a bit God-like.

At one point, Bajaj was talking about dropping all of their scooter line in favor of small motorcycles (and three-wheelers). I wondered if that shift wasn't driven, at least in part, by the spread of mobility from the cities to the countyside and smaller towns, since on rougher roads and travelling farther large wheels are better than small ones. A cycle generally has more of a suspension than a scooter.

I hear Obama's ordering two.

Wait, think about it. If God is in a hurry, he just teleports himself or something.

For a leisurely, quiet ride through the countryside, this is just the sort of motorcycle He might choose.

Yeah, what pdb said-- don't they have, like, more than 100,000 gods there?

Ahh-ah, each one is but a single aspect of the Godhead. The West had better fold, the best hand any of our guys have is a three.

...I just thought it was an interesting way to sell a motorcycle. Serious comparative religion is way above my pay grade. Also, Bajaj makes decent stuff; some of it may not have the ummph and style that sells here but their engineering is solid and they're doing well in the home market.

I am reminded that back when I was a Unitarian (yeah, I was. Stop gawking, your face might stick that way), there was a sincere effort to not be trivializing unfamiliar faiths. It's a darned good notion for me to follow, since any system of belief with more than one adherent's got me outnumbered. YMMV.

I'm sorry. God rides a Harley customized by Indian Larry himself...
