The Problem With Illinois

I hate to sound like an old-time John Bircher holding up a map of the Caribbean with Cuba marked in lurid Red, but livin' next door to the erstwhile Land'O'Lincoln, y'can't help but notice: even their Republicans lean anti-gun and as for the Democrats....whew!

Meanwhile, the Governor of that rights-free hellhole reg'lar Midwestern-type state wants to ban everything but muzzleloaders, lever-actions and and wheelguns.

Now, you can go the border between Indiana and Illinois and drive back and forth all day long without noticing any particular huge change in landscape (hey, look, a river!) either side; nor do you suddenly become overwhelmed by the urge to kill, kill, kill on the IL side of the line -- at least, the vast majority of folks do not, unless they were that way on the IN side already. I'm told much the same condition obtains at the Missouri-IL border and up Iowa way, too. And yet-- Somehow, in Illinois, guns are de Debbil in a way they are not in other states until you reach New Jersey, Mass. and New York to the East, or California to the the West.

It can happen here.

Now there's a chance things may turn; certainly downstate IL has no shortage of fine, right-minded folks and McDonald, et al. fought the Good Fight and won. But I misdoubt it will be fast or easy; too much BS has gone over the dam.

Well, It may have been " The Great State of Illinois" but now its
"The Great Mistake of Illinois"
without a doubt. And I was born, raised, schooled and worked most of my life here in Illinois.

Tam told me that driving into Chicago was like driving into Mordor--your typical Mordor with gray, foresaken landscape, tangles of forest, orcs running at large.

One does not simply drive into Chicago.

As a refugee from the People's Republic of Illinois no one need tell me of the many and persistent violations of my rights that the so-called leaders of that state continuously push for.

I know it too well, which is why I live elsewhere. Sadly, I still have family there. I don't visit them as often as I would like because I have to leave my CCW piece in Kentucky before I go. I feel naked without it.

Even more sadly, outside of the hell hole that is Chicago, Illinois residents are no more left-wing than Indiana residents. But Indiana doesn't have the Chicago mob running their state government.

Heck, southern Illinois even has an entire county, Pope county, that is effectively one big hunting area. But shotguns only, please. Chicago makes the rules.

If there can be any silver lining to the great, dark cloud of corruption that Obama and his minions have taken to Washington D.C., it is that at long last the complete and utter corruption of the Chicago machine will be exposed for the entire nation to see. Maybe the good people of Illinois will rise up and cast off their oppressors.

There isn't much chance of that happening. It didn't happen after the whole world watched Mayor Daly's police savagely beat citizens during the 1968 Demoncrat convention. It probably won't happen now.

But one can hope.

"No one needs a semiautomatic weapon on the streets of Chicago, and no convicted felons or domestic abusers need a weapon anywhere in Illinois," Giannoulias spokeswoman Kathleen Strand said in a statement. "These are not questions of constitutional rights — they are questions of public safety and common sense."

A.) If you really mean that, start with the cops. Take away their Glocks and ARs, and make 'em do with Smith Model 10s and Remington 1187s.

B.) The Supreme Court would seem to disagree with Ms. Strand on the subject of whether it's a question of Constitutional rights.

There must be a plague of lever-gun killing in South Chicago, or something. Better ban lever guns with bayonet lugs.

The good folks of Illinois should count themselves lucky. If their Gov had ever attended a cowboy shoot, he'd have a whole different opinion of wheel guns and lever actions. :-)

You know every time I drive through IL to get to IA to see my family, I get this urge to pull a firearm and start shooting everything in sight.

Oh wait, that's just indigestion from having to pack away my firearms to cross across an imaginary line.

My bad....

I grew up in "ill" (the proper abreviation for Illinois as far as I am concerned, it's a sick place). A while back, I was talking to my ex-wife who still lives there (central ill, not Mordor area) and somehow the subject of firearms came up. She was AMAZED that I have a concealed carry permit and SHOCKED at how many guns I own (she asked, I wasn't bragging). Then she says "and they let you have that many?" Let? Since when does the Gov LET us have firearms? She was also amazed that I didn't have to have a FOID (Firearm Owners Identification Card) to own them, and was surprised to know that ill is one of the only states that have those (the only I know about, but I admit that I don't know every state's laws).

I think victumhood is well ingrained there in the land of the big ol' Lincoln.

I certainly hate it here. The problem we face is that the Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area represents about 70% of the state's population (based on numbers from Wikipedia; I'm too lazy to look elsewhere). Not only do very few states have this kind of population concentration, but a large percentage of that concentration is very liberal and "progressive." The result is not only the domination and subjugation of the rest of us, but the MSM leans this way as well. So even some downstaters that Stuart references have had their brains washed. And it really sucks.
