Warmer Today
It was even warmer overnight than it has been the last few days. This means the furnace ran less -- and for whatever reason (like cold air piling up at floor level?), I feel colder.
The more the furnace fan runs, the more the air mixes through the house. So yes, on cool days when the furnace doesn't run as much, it is probably colder at the floor than it is at, say, head level.
One solution is to set the furnace fan to run constantly. Another would be to use ceiling fans or other fans to just gently move air around in rooms where this is a problem.
Here in Michigan, on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, we have been in the middle of a small warm up. I never got the majority of my leaves raked up, before the snow piled on top of it. So now, with the snow finally gone for a couple of days, I had to break down and hire some help. I hate to do it, but sometimes, my body just can't keep up with the things that need to be done in the time they need to be done. I had some guy give me an estimate of 75$, which was crazy. I live in a trailer park, even though it is a nice one, it is still a trailer park. And they have a rule that if you don't maintain your property, they will do it and charge you 50$ for it. I could do better to just ignore it, and let the park do it for less money. But I found a guy who did it all for 30$, he had 6 people there, they did a great job, and hauled them away. Last spring we bought a brand new furnace and air conditioner. They are energy efficient, and should last us our life time. The furnace is strange, in that it will start it's cycle, then stop, then start slowly, and then run faster, then the fan will run full speed. The technician who installed it told me that it did these things, due to it's energy efficient status.

My house has one third the floor space outside the central heat registers. The house gets as much as 10 deg differential between extreme rooms.
