I'm Looking For A New Dentist

So, I go up to try my relined partial.  Dentist lookes it over, rinses it off, hands it to me and I pop it in.  Fits nicely.  Does not appear to have a lot of movement.  She has me take it out, says something about, "I'll just relieve it a little on that side," and I hear the burr whirr and make contact while I'm saying, "Maybe we shouldn't...?"

Too late.  The relined part had been got at, right where it wiggles. She had me put the partial back in to check the bite and adjusted that a little.  And yes, the darned thing now has what feels like excessive movement again.

I lasted until noon with it, then got tired of being unable to speak clearly.  (And of being irked about that -- my temper is short enough without help.)

It's way too early to give up on the appliance but I am thinking my dental problems might benefit from a fresh pair of eyes.  It's been over twenty years and maybe that's too long.

Was she perhaps trying to keep the appliance from rubbing against the spot in your gum that bothers you? It gets sore and infected on its own, and she might be afraid the partial will simply help it stay sore and infected all the time.

Absolutely get a new set of eyes involved! I just fired my GP of ~15 years after he blew off a complaint one time too many. Moved to a new Internist and suddenly I'm getting sent for multiple tests to evaluate things that have been in my chart for years without being investigated.

The final straw was getting to see a Physical Therapist about my shoulders, they are both tight from old bike accidents. Old doc couldn't be bothered. New doc wrote me up and I had my first visit last week. The PT recommended some stretching exercises for my shoulders but then he said most of my complaints are due to poor posture and he added an exercise to get me more erect. I'm nearly 60 also so I want to fix these things before it gets too hard....

tl;dr - new eyes can find new solutions.

Ouch. That really blows. I had a run in with one dentist that I had to leave. Good luck in finding one.

If you are looking for suggestions, Martine Dental at 3410 W 56th St, Indianapolis, IN 46228. (317) 291-2119. I don't have many dental problems, so I just get a cleaning. My father in law, on the other hand, has had a lot of work, including partials, and has been very happy. YMMV.

If you don't want a suggestion, please ignore me. (I'm married, so I'm used to it :) )

Happy to refer my dentist if you like. He's done everything for me from a semi-annual cleaning and checkup to root canals and crowns to pulling a wisdom tooth with a hooked root (he would have sent me to the oral surgeon had he known). And he hates hurting people. Which I consider a plus.

Perhaps a consult with a new dentist before firing the old, just in case the new says "They have to fix that."

Then fire the old...

Good luck. I hate situations like this - sometimes you have to fire them before they do any more damage...

I love Dr Nunley over in Irvington if you're willing to head that way. Been going there for over 25 years.
