With the coming of warm weather, the Monon Trial is getting a lot of use, some of it by goblins.
H'mm. Guess the criminally-inclined figure they'd better strike now -- 'cos after the first of July, the city prohibition on handgun license-holders carrying in parks gets pre-empted.
(Other changes in Indiana gun laws are already causing official police bedwetting. Dang, wait'll they get to the part about parks!)
Two notes, readers; no, make that three:
1. The trail is officially closed when it is dark. It is not lit. Use at own risk and remember, if crooks don't rob you, the city will ticket and fine you, pretty much robbery with a receipt.
2. Situational awareness! Yes, even at high noon. A park (linear or otherwise) is not your living room.
3. "Always be sure of your target and what is behind it." The trail runs next to people's back yards, okay?

"A park(linear or otherwise) is not your Living Room." What? You don't keep something stashed by the Front Door, just in case? I mean, what if you're in the Shower, and you hear a strange noise from the Porch and your CCW gear is hanging in the closet, and all you have is a robe...
Not just no but Hell, No. I keep it on me or near me. Darned if I'm gonna arm some nitwit who pops the lock while I'm downstairs, folding laundry.
The Monon Trail would have made a much better commuter rail corridor than it does a linear park.
Before trail advocates around here object, just think: Excursion cars, where you could shoot the goblins from the train windows. Just like the old West.
You know you'd buy a ticket for that :)
I'm not sure I understand the anticipated problems with the new gun law.It simply allows people to do what they were always able to do (and still can)here in Oklahoma prior to our enactment of concealed carry. in 25 years of traffic stops I can't recall an issue with any of the things allowed under your new law. Oh, and WTF is with the "on your own property clause"? You mean to tell me that in Indiana you couldn't, prior to this law going into effect, be "strapped" in your own home without a handgun license?
Montie, as usual, the media types muffed it...
CURRENT LAW:
Sec. 1. (a) Except as provided in subsection (b) and section 2 of this chapter, a person shall not carry a handgun in any vehicle or on or about the person's body, except in the person's dwelling, on the person's property or fixed place of business, without a license issued under this chapter being in the person's possession.

Another mugging on the Monon Trail?
That does it!
The Monon Trail must be shut down, ripped up and plowed under. It serves no purpose other than to expose law abiding civilians to violence and death. It would be idiotic to argue that walking or bicycling provides any benefit that offsets the inherent dangers caused by the existence of the Monon Trail.
We need someone to lead a reasonable and commonsense petition drive to get this dangerous trail shut down. I hear that Paul Helmke is available.
Mycroft
Montie, on the topic of Indiana firearms laws, the officer interviewed is, I am sorry to say, an idiot.
Compared to the reporter, he's Stephen Hawking.
