Current Events

...I am not ignoring Washington, just letting the New Guy settle in and get his foot well-positioned in his mouth. Snarking now is like shootin' fish in a barrel.

Bear in mind that though we regard it as routine, an orderly transfer of Executive authority and responsibility is very much the exception in many parts of the world, perhaps most. The electorate was rather sharply divided and very nearly evenly; yet here in the States, we didn't even have riots. Either we're amazingly apathetic or the system kinda works -- or both.

I don't know if it's that we're more apathetic, but I think it's more that the more polite side lost this time. Conservatives aren't much of the rioting kind. They're more about regrouping and taking the next hill tomorrow with the knowledge gained than sweating about today's loss.

When the liberals lost eight years ago, they bombarded the motorcade with rotten eggs to the extent that Bush couldn't make the traditional walk to the inaugural stage. And spent the next eight years saying BushChimpHitler. And took the W's off of the White House keyboards on the way out.

When Bush left, all of the O's were in place. Even the Cheerios boxes stayed full. (Ok, I made that last one up.)

I'd say both.
I am mostly waiting to see how he handles the economy. And his first real foreign crisis. Esp. the economy. I work in the auto industry, and we are kinda nervous. (Don't work for any of the big 3, though.)

I agree it's both. For myself, I'll save the PSH for the truly apt moments. Meanwhile, I'm vaguely despairing and focusing my efforts on my own job search and cleaning up after the hellpups. Who knew mopping up dog pee was so zen?
