From the Land Of No Chewing Gum:
"The skimpy trunks sported by Singapore's men's water polo team at the Asian Games are causing red faces back home.... The trunks display the Singaporean flag's white crescent moon on the front of the red briefs in what has been described as an inappropriate fashion."
Yahoo News quoted only the text from the illustrated Reuters original and didn't link to it, either. Thousand words, anyone?
Meanwhile, no word on how well the team did in actual competition. Tsk.

Clever distraction by our Water Polo Team? | Geek.Mythology
I had heard it was the Turks, but I guess not.
The Reuters original now has an illustration, consistent with what Drang found.
vw: "riessies." "If those were any tighter, you'd be able to see their riessies."
Not the turks. The turks wear green suits.
Much ado about nothing.
When I played water polio we often wore more than one suit because the other team would try to pull one off.
We didn't want to stop in the middle of a sprint taking the ball up-pool.
Water polio? So. NOT. Playing. That.
Murghph. I got spell-dunked.
