Self-Indulgent, Mostly Healthy
Old-fashioned oatmeal with cinnamon and vanilla sugar added to the water before the oatmeal. Yum! Taste it once and you'll spurn the "instant" stuff ever after.
This is basically the reason for my (somewhat impulsively) buying a rice cooker. Steel-cut oats ready automagically in the morning at the same time as the coffee.
Try real maple syrup in that oatmeal, if you haven't already, then you can lose the vanilla sugar, though the touch of cinnamon wouldn't hurt keeping in the mix.

Steel-cut or rolled oats?
Since discovering steel-cut, I won't eat rolled except in oatmeal cookies.

I like mine with butter and salt, though.
