Now I'll Listen To Country Music: Hayseed Dixie

Why was I not told sooner?

I'm told it's all at least this good.
(While lyrics of Walk This Way are especially rank when sung intelligibly, their take on the tune is simply staggering.)

I am not a fan of most country music, especially "modern" country.  Come to think of it, there's not a whole lot of harder/louder/metal rock I can listen to for more than a minute or two.  But this?  This is great!  (It's probably the bluegrass that saves it.)

Bluegrass and speed metal are kissin' cousins. You might like to check out Iron Horse too. (The band, not the magazine. Assuming the latter is even still in print.)

I have -- someone posted a long compilation of Hayseed Dixie, Iron Horse and various bluegrass covers to YouTube and I was playing it for background music last night. Fine stuff -- it ranks right up there with electrified swing, another crossbred music genre I really enjoy.

Les Jones pointed me to the Gourds doing Gin and Juice.

I've had the pleasure of seeing The Cleverlys live. Their cover of " Beyonce's All The Single Ladies" is not to be missed.

Brick beat me to it.
I found The Gourds putting a bluegrass spin on rap to be an improvement on the original.

I saw Hayseed Dixie live in a small club in London a few years ago. Fantastic stuff and fantastic people. Also, the first and so far only gig I've been to where the lead singer's girlfriend was giving out free shots of whisky on the door.

Is this a bit like Gangstagrass, who did the theme song for Justified?

Given your talent for finding the offbeat and kewl stuff, I'm surprised you hadn't heard of them.

I'll suggest Luther Wright and the Wrongs. They covered the whole thing, and it's great.

Another vote for The Cleverlys. I'm partial to their rendition of Walk Like an Egyptian.

Pretty unique covers. Not to mention they can actually sing. Good stuff!

What about Poor Man's Whiskey? Just listened to a couple of Pink Floyd covers. http://youtu.be/B-HAnpglqkk Man, that's messed up.

The Austin Lounge Lizards cover of "Brain Damage" is right up there. And "Old Blevins" is a great parody of the "wise old man in a bar" theme.
