It's kewl but hang on tight: looking up libraries online, Tam and I found a little NYC coffeeshop with a charming book-lined...floor and ceiling!?
At second glance, their angle on the place goes deeper than that -- see for yourself! Their website has a certain charm, too -- and one of the things on it is not quite like the others.

Gotta sell a lot of coffee to pay for the half a mil. remodel.
NOT the place to wander into while all likkered-up.
Very nice -- added to my "Must Visit" list. Thanks!
I don't get motion sick, but I twitched a bit when that image loaded.

Actually, I'd like to do an apartment like that-except make the underfoot shelves real! Make a recess a little bigger than the width and height of a paperback, and Lucite over it. Every so many "squares" would be openable (I'm thinking of using ultra-strong magnets to lift with), and easch section could be lined with regular flooring supports.
It'd be especially good for dwellers of tiny houses and boats.

Tempting, isn't it?
Overhead would be a bit more of a trick.
