Thought For The Day

"Be pleasant and kind to everyone you meet, and always remember they may be a dangerous nutjob."

It's "The most won-der-ful time/Of the year,"  Except for some people it's a huge ball of stress.  Let's not help push them over the edge.

One of the scariest things I remember overhearing - some of our students get hired to work the deer-check stations during firearm season here. The DFW guy who was instructing them said, "And remember, somewhere around 10-15% of the people out there will either be high on meth or coming down off a meth high. If someone doesn't want their deer checked and is starting to make a deal out of it, just let him go. Getting that particular deer checked isn't worth your safety or your life."

Perhaps he was being melodramatic, but I dunno...it was chilling to me and I admit I eyeball my lab students a little closer now before we do any kind of a dangerous lab.

But yes - "they may be a dangerous nutjob" is a big motivator in how I treat people when out in public (super polite, keep at arm's length, and make sure I know where the exit is if I have to run for it)

Is a deer-check like a coat-check, Fillyjonk?

I was also reminded of that Gen. Mattis quote, Sdv1949: "Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet."
