The latest skinny step-to-open trash can here at Roseholme has an unusual feature:Slide lock!
Remember, a real Operator never, ever shoots to slide lock. I wonder if it makes Major?

Hmmmmm......
One of the schnauzers has discovered the joys of can tipping. That might just be a worthwhile feature. Might one ask where you found it?

Lowe's, in fact. I think it is the "Simple" brand.
I was very happy to find it-- we have a narrow spot in the fridge nook that is perfect for a trash can but after the last of three Rubbermaid step-cans bit the dust (the treadle breaks), we were using a round one that didn't fit and got stuck a lot.
Saw those last time I looked at trash cans. They're not cheap, but if the puppy decides to start opening the current one I might have to splurge
Read somewhere that those may become a Kalifornia Nanny State Requirement to keep Rug Rats out of the bin and eating something "Bad", like Broken Glass or (Heaven Forbid!) Meat Scraps!
Much thanks Ms. X.
Bad little Dog's most recent trick was to knock the trash can down the steps into the basement so I'm headed to Lowes right after work tomorrow.
Wouldn't have been so bad but I was at the bottom of the steps at the time...holding a basket of clean laundry...which went right back in the washer to get the coffee grounds out.

Hmm... I have one of these
Interesting, but probably too wide.
I'm not too keen on my garbage can being at the whim of ice, tree branches, drunk drivers, and the like.

Ok, I'll admit it - my first reaction was "Huh?" No pets, no kids, no need for a lockable cover (on an INDOOR can, that is), and why would you lock it if you wanted the step-to-open feature?
But now I see the value, and even appreciate cost-saving genius of putting both features on one item rather than having two products.
I have never seen these before. However, in an amazing display of synchronicity, two of these cans - the exact same model as in your photo - showed up in our office kitchen this afternoon.
I love it when life is weird.
Alas I have returned from my nearest Lowes without a clever locking trash can. All of the ones they had were branded Hefty and no better than the Sterilite that became a terrier initiated gravity demonstration a few days ago.
I think it's time for some amateur engineering. Somebody might want to warn the fine lads of DFD Station 4......
