More Big China Fun

...Honestly, I had no idea the Red Menace was this menacing: Vast Computer Spy Network (discovered by...Canadians! They are our first line of defence, after all).

Something to consider as the clock ticks down to the 1 April activation of the "Conficker C" virus, ey?

Read up on the Chinese DF-21 anti-ship ballistic missile if you want something that should be causing some serious worry.

USAF was all set to combat this, and had its funding pulled rather unceremoniously. We will dither over whose job it is, and then comes the hard part: to put the Web on a "war footing" would involve some serious technical controls, which will be fought tooth and nail as censorship or up-marketing, which some of it certainly will be.

China has no such qualms. Ever the case when a democracy goes up against an authoritarian power. Every time Americans have given up liberties to combat an external threat, they have failed to get all those liberties back when it's over--and some Americans find they like it that way.

Roberta, FYI, the Washington Times has an article on Li Fengzhi (PLA MI defector) this week.

I would anticipate that the PRC will become hyperaggressive the next few years as the West tries to get its head unscrabbled.
