Ouch

Ouch.

Sometimes it really is uphill both ways. Also, I'm not gonna be able to gripe about my DSL.

The latency sucks, but a panel van full of DVDs carries a lot of bandwidth.

I guess that pigeon should be glad for microSD cards. Think of how its life would be if those data were encoded onto a pineapple or a melon or something..

Or a coconut. He could grip it by the husk.

"Internet speed is expected to improve once a new 17,000 km underwater fiber optic cable linking southern and East Africa to other networks becomes operational before South Africa hosts the soccer World Cup next year."

Unfortunately, that won't solve their 50-mile point-to-point problem.

Behold IETF RFC 1149, "A Standard for the Transmission of IP Datagrams on Avian Carriers."

Also RFC 2549, "IP over Avian Carriers with Quality of Service."

And people say engineers have no sense of humor.

Instead of complaining about the telcom, this should highlight the efficiency of pigeons. Why *not* use them to carry flash drives tied to their legs? Like the pneumatic tube and the streetcar, it seems a technology, or at least a way of doings things, got abandoned just because it was all of a sudden seen as uncool.

And they're buzzing around up there, where I'm not, unlike messenger cyclists, who are buzzing around in the same plane in which I travel. Plus I'm sure they smell better and work for less.

So sneakernet is being replaced by pigeonnet?
