It can't be a coat of arms, 'cos only the Royal College of Heralds can draw 'em up and U. S. citizens -- if found worthy and you do have to be just a teeeeny bit special to rate the honor -- can only ever receive an honorary grant, anyway. Plus, the War of the Roses-GI Bill grant of arms my maybe-ancestor got had an expiration date; that naturally-colored rose on a silver background ran out long ago. --But while I'm playin':
Greatly tempted to adopt the motto
A Subterranibus Venio, dog Latin for "I came from the basement." Where all the kewl toys are!

Verily!
I love it!

Looks great, your ladyship!
Workin' on mine: A crowned cat--familiar spirit of the Roman Goddess Libertas--and a caltrop. Motto Evado Meus Grasmen sorta translates as "Get off my lawn!"
Shall we now address thee as Lady X? It does have quite a ring to it...
Rose Hulman has a coat of arms?
Funny, I thought a slide rule would be involved somehow.
Shootin' Buddy
I like the crest and the motto, but, what, no supporters?
Oh, having just read all of the previous comments, I think you need to have some graphic representation of Shootin' Buddy being trampled by a large fierce beast. F'n damyankees!
What if we had Shootin' Buddy and a large, fierce beast as the supporters? He can be brandishing a broken gun, or more likely, discarding it for his backup -- "two is one and one is none" is his byword.
And, BTW, I am entirely sure RHIT has a coat of arms; how could they not?
A slug?! At the very top!?! I'm not sure I approve. I know there is a college in California that has a slug for a mascot, but that's in California. Slugs are prevalent around here. Doesn't mean I like them. How about something else, like a pencil maybe?
Or a pen? --I was giving serious thought to crossed lightning bolt and pen behind the gear.
As for the slug, that is no ordinary slug, Sir; it is the Great Gray Slug, a/k/a the European Leopard Slug. At least thrice as fast as the vegan Banana Slug and around about the same size, a pair of these clever (for slugs) carnivores have taken up residence in my back yard.
Scroll back for photos.
Yep, Roberta, Shootin' Buddy on one side, and a Wookiee on the other, and yer ready to send it to Garter King of Arms for approval!
P.s. How do you say "gear" in heraldic language?
WV: scesitur. Obviously, that's how you say "gear" in Heraldic.
