Traffic Generator: Pistol-Bashing

Resolved: the Glock is a graceless, ugly sidearm, not especially well-balanced. While dependable, the family of weapons has an unpleasant trigger and offers the primary virtue of being equally clumsy in any shooter's hands.

If you can shoot well with a Glock, you'll shoot well with anything else -- and if you were me, you'd favor the latter choice.

Sure, the 1911 is an old, old design; but "new" "plastic" and "ugly" does not necessarily add up to "better. " Lighter on the belt, which I guess counts if you think of a handgun as a sort of elaborate concho.

After the small spate of 1911-bashing posts, I thought it was only fair to get in some licks for the traditional side. --Y'know what else is different about a cocked-and-locked 1911? You can't get an ND with a single ill-favored twig through the trigger guard!

Amen.

May the blessings of JMB (PBUH) be upon you each and every day of this 100th anniversary of the recognition of his genius by the Department of war.

Ah, yes, this is The Year of Years, isn't it?

I am not a Glock fan...they feel like I'm trying to grip a 2x4 in my hand. I like 1911's fine but I love my Springfield XDM with the small grip and of course my little Kahr PM9 feels nice as well.

Indeed. And I'm a girl that loves a j-frame snubby. This may just be the year to fall in love with a 1911 though. Great thing about guns is that they don't get jealous if you feel a bit polyamorous.
Ooh! Did I just do that? Introduce another search term?

I encourage everyone who like's the Colt Gov't Model to try a Browning Hi Power as well, I love both design's. As to the Glock, well its here to stay and I carry one on and off duty. I can't say I love it but will say it alway's work's and shoot's well for me. For those with a non issued Glock grip modification's are option's to reduce and change the grip. In addition an aftermarket slip on beavertail is on the market that also improves the grip angle while also preventing a nasty slide gash.

Jennifer - I think in this context it'd be polyblamborous.

If you ate bacon and ribs, then you'd be... hambidextrous.

I'm here all week, try the veal! :P

I have plenty of choice, but a Series 70 has been my jacket and jeans companion for many years; while the Remington 51 has been the ride along for more formal affairs.

Glocks? In the safe with the other polymer pistoles.

I like High Powers quite a lot. My ex had a very nice one, the "Capitan" variant with tangent sights and a super-shiny blued finish. The trigger was a little scratchy but not bad.

The CZ-75 (et seq) and EAA/Tanfoglio Witness/T95 (etc) borrow heavily from High Power ergonomics; I own and shoot a CZ-75 and a pair of Compact-model Witnesses (9mm Para. and .38 SA, since the small ones don't swap chamberings as widely). They're excellent guns.

I still like the 1911 a little better. YMMV!

(Why, I even own a plastic gun: a Star Ultrastar! Nice, though sadly orphaned. They have excellent balance and a somewhat "fat" grip, not bad for early polymer but easily bettered by more recent designs).

There was a time that I was firmly in the camp that thought 1911s were trash. After all, who wants to buy a pistol that won't reliably eat anything but ball, requires a 500 round break in period, and needs thousands of dollars in custom gunsmithing to work properly? No, I decided that Sigs were the way to go.

Finally, having pistols in every caliber and from a dozen manufacturers, I decided that my pistol collection could not be complete without a 1911. I bought my first one three years ago, a Colt Commander. I now own four 1911's: the Colt, and three Kimbers. An Ultra Carry is frequently my carry pistol.

I cannot tell you how pleased I am that I finally caved in and bought one. Or four.

She spoke approvingly of my chosen carry platform. I feel so validated.

It's true, but I like mine anyway. :)

Doc, we do offer validation here -- check at the reception desk after your appointment.

My hands are small and Glocks are built like bricks for no good reason I can identify. 1911 forever.

My three favorite pistols are my CZ75, Springfield XDm, and Kimber 1911. And they are so close as to need decimals to distinguish the ranking.

Oh, and Jim? I am cowed by your punditry! Such meaty commentary!

Amd with that, it's probably time to moove along.

I always thought that whole reason for having a plastic gun was weight reduction for people who have to carry a gun all day every day as part of their job. LEO's, typically. Everything else, like accuracy, good handling, ease of use, was secondary.

I don't like Glocks.

I'd check out a High Power if I lived in a different state. But since NYS has a "no large pre-ban magazines" law, I'll stick with my 1911.
