Tam And The Bimmer, Updated

Just took a call from Tennessee. Tam says it looks like she'll be back Saturday, in plenty of time for the BlogMeet.

While we all speculated, the nice lads at the K-town BMW-healer's put her Zed Drei up on the lift and had a look.

Rotor's toast. Caliper, likewise; and that does for the pads. The flexy line at that wheel? Well, observed behavior indicated the brake fluid had been brought to a boil, which is not too good for the flexible bits -- or the fluid, either; and while we're looking, let's just mike that other rotor and -- whups! Kinda skinny.

She's lookin' at about a kilobuck, all told. Talking about hittin' Gunbroker with some listings.

I have mentioned there's a tip jar over Tam's way, haven't I?

Tipjar? BTDT, but not a kilobuck's worth. Not even close.

Ouch.

Understood, Kevin; I'm not asking anyone to take up the whole burden or even a little of it, just reminding folks who enjoy the snark where to toss a dime if they've one they can spare.

Tam's in pretty much the same position as someone busking on the sidewalk -- the difference being, if you don't like the tune, you don't have to listen.

Don't do Paypal, any other options?

*sigh, frown*

I really wish I could. Hell, I feel bad not, given that Tam's place (and, well, yours) are nigh daily stops.

But I'm spending every dime I've got on my own wheels. Actually, I'm spending quite a few dimes that aren't mine yet, even.

Stupid no work for a year. :(

Aw, geez, neither Tam nor I would have you feel obliged or guilted. Times are tough and we've all gotta eat. Fear not; she's covered.

10 Benjamins for a pair each of calipers, rotors, pads and a brake hose? geez-o-pete. Sure am glad i drive a Chevy... It was less than 200 for parts last time I had to shotgun my front brakes.

what's her handle on gunbroker. Since I probably can't afford her toys even used, I'll likely end up tossing her a ten. Hoping people will someday do that for me.....

Well, I know you don't want me to feel bad. It's just how I am. Shirt off my back to clothe my brother's nakedness, and all that. *shrug*

Given friends of a similar bent, it leads to some pretty amusing pissing contests, at times, actually... "I'm going to give you my last dollar." "No, I'm going to give you my last dollar!"

Besides, it just sticks in my craw that whenever I am working I make all sort of "charitable donations" I don't really wish to, and now someone I think worthy of the largesse needs help and I can't. *grump*

Well, to each their own, but I'd sell the Bimmer, rather than the guns. And wasn't she talking a while back about selling it anyway? Of course, I dunno whether selling it and getting cheaper wheels is a fiscally reasonable thing.

As someone who's tossed $1200 into the decrepit Volvo so far this year, I certainly sympathize. No way I could sell it for that kind of money. And, I'm certain I have far fewer guns, from which to choose a couple to sell, than she.

This would be the first problem her car has had other than tire replacement; she was looking to sell it, the problem being that car lots are not terribly interested in a used luxy 2-seater just now.
