The Way I Hear It...

...That "green" planet-saving dishwasher soap does a bang-up job if you add half a teaspoon of trisodium phosphate to every load.

Not that I would ever try; commercially putting that stuff in dish soap or laundry detergent has been banned here my whole adult life and it's only sold at home-supply stores for the express purpose of painting preparation.

     Riiiiight.

Don't use made for cattle insect repellent ear tags as a replacement for no pest strips (remember those).

I'm perpetually amused/amazed by the "phosphate free TSP"... *shakes head*

And I know that where I live, the sewage treatment plant is quite proud of their ability to remove every last molecule of phosphate from the water that we send to them.

Kinda like the New York Anti-Gun Laws, where a loaded 15 round .30 Carbine Magazine is Deadlier than Dead, while a 8mm Mauser K98 is Child Safe.

I think the main reason for instituting the original ban was because we had so many combined sewage systems that dumped raw sewage into the rivers and streams everytime it rained.

Seems to me that the sewer tax I pay with my water bill per EPA diktat is supposed to be paying for new separated storm and sewage systems that would make such a ban obsolete...since it's not that difficult to clean the phosphates out of the water at the sewage treatment plant.

Be cautious however, there are "TSP" products on sale that have no trisodium phosphate in them.

Despicable, I know.

Now she tells us! I'd been boosting the effectiveness of Dawn dishwashing detergent with a healthy dose of MEK up to this point. Learn something new every day! ;-)

... and according to someone who used to manufacture TSP, all clothes and dish washing polution from TSP comes to less than 18% of total found in streams and rivers. But, those that are smarter than you and me would rather have our clothes and dishes dirty than the polution. Go Figure
