More Book News

Item: Claire Wolfe's collected Hardyville tales is still headed for publication, but may be delayed: something went goofy in the composing room.

Item: Carl Bussjaeger has a new book out! You might not know of Carl; he is an excellent SF writer but not published much. His latest yarn, Bargaining Position, is available as a download (.doc); his earlier novel Net Assets is available in paperback, as is a short-story collection...the bad news being, he has yet to see a dime from the publisher of those two. ...So buy his new book, so he'll be able buy a couple cans of beans and batteries for his computer, and we'll have even more to read, by and by.

Available as a .doc?

Doesn't anyone know how to make a PDF these days?

Sheesh.

I've not seen any free software that'd do it -- and the impression I get is that Carl would be suffering scurvy if he didn't have a back yard garden. Software upgrades might not be in the cards.

But tellya what: if you buy a copy from him, I'll make it into a .pdf for you.

.pdfs suck on e-book readers.

Net Assets is available in a variety of formats, including e-pub, lrf (Sonys) and Palm pdb. Also HTML and javascript. (!)

calibre - E-book management software is available for free, and will convert from and to many, many formats, including .pdf. Word and Open Office.org will both save .docs as .pdfs, if you insist.
