Venerable Flackville?

I do not believe it. Popped up on Google Maps: Indianapolis has a neighborhood called "Venerable Flackville."

Srsly.

I have no idea how I could have lived here most of my adult life and missed it until now. You'd think there'd be a sign.

You might want to revise the first link. Could be too much information.

respect the Google.

One of those "map traps" or "copyright traps" that mapmakers tend to use to see if their hard work is being ripped off?

Flackville is/was a "crossroads town" that got swamped by suburban development after World War II. (Eagledale, to the west, was the big National Homes subdivision during the 50s, back when Lafayette Road was US-52 to Chicago.) There are a bunch of these in the metro area (even Broad Ripple was "country" until the 1920s).

Standard Mischief: If so, they faked up a lot of general Google entries.

What's sad is the abandonned Flackville School on the west side of Lafayette Road just south of 30th Street. I think its cornerstone shows it was built in either 1903 or 1913. It had become IPS 100 when I attended there in 5th and 6th grades, and Mr. Harker was the principal, the longtime conductor of the train at the Indianpolis Zoo. Various businesses have tried to make it there since the school closed several years ago, but it now is just sitting there empty. What a waste.
